Not Bed Bugs, Not Ladybugs, But a Secret Third Thing (Carpet Beetles)

Pest identification is part of our job. But most people recognize spiders. They know what cockroaches look like. They’re extremely familiar with ants and they have a general idea of what a centipede is. So, most people only contact us when they see a pest on their property they really don’t recognize, and *FREQUENTLY* it is one of these two bugs:

On the left is a carpet beetle. On the right… is also a carpet beetle. Both of those are carpet beetles. The left one is the adult. The right one is a larva. Carpet beetles live in carpets and on furniture (among other places). That’s why people that are not familiar with these pests think they may be bed bugs or something similar, because you might see them in or near your bed.

But they’re carpet beetles. It is the one on the right that is actually more damaging to your home. The larva are what eat the fibers and other materials that make up your carpets and furniture. The beetles on the left prefer flowers. You’re more likely to see the ones on the left because they leave the carpet in order to try to find their way out of your home.

So, there you go! Keep an eye out for these two bugs. Infestations of carpet beetles can be very difficult to manage without professional help. At Adapt Pest Management, we’re here to prevent carpet beetles and help you maintain your property. Call today to learn more.
